After Care Advice

Reactions to Massage

Massage stimulates the circulatory system and improves the body's ability to detoxify itself.  This means that sometimes you can experience the following reactions as the body attempts to heal and remove unwanted toxins.

  • Increased need to go to the toilet

  • Temporary outbreak of a condition that has been suppressed ie. acne

  • Lethargy/tiredness

  • Emotional release of suppressed feelings - teary

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Dizziness

  • Muscles may feel tight and sore

It is important to reduce the possibility of the above by following a few easy steps:

  • Drink plenty of water and avoid too many stimulants eg. tea and coffee

  • Avoid spicy foods

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking

  • Keep a window open in your car and take extra care when performing tasks as your reactions may be slower

  • Eat light meals

  • Take a warm bath or shower to relieve sore and aching muscles

  • Rest as much as possible - Enjoy the fact you have had a massage!
